What an amazing young lady!

Jessica is an absolute superstar.

I've had the pleasure of knowing her and her family for a few years now and she continues to impress me. She has always come across as a fun-loving, happy, young lady who is kind and generous to all of those around her. In my old life as a teacher, she was in my class and used to bake and bring in the most delicious cakes almost every week - I think she was trying to fatten me up!

Her mum, Wendy, has MS. However this doesn't stop her or her kids from getting out and enjoying nature and making the most of the beautiful countryside around us. I was lucky enough to photograph the whole family earlier this year in the bluebells at Oldmoor Woods, Nottinghamshire, and they are adorable - such a loving, caring family.

It was lovely to see Jessica and her sister out, running around and enjoying the bluebell wood - they're such inquisitive young ladies!

She certainly enjoyed being swung around - look at the natural smile!

Earlier this week I heard that Jessica has planned, and is preparing to run her very own fundraiser at Heanor Methodist Church this Saturday to raise money for the MS society, which is a charity which obviously means a great deal to her and the family. She understands that living with MS can be hard and can make it harder to do things and she has always said to her mum that she wants to help out. Having seen a TV advert for a charity mud run she was determined to do it, when her mum said she was too young to do that she insisted on doing something else.

So, she planned a raffle, tombola, guess the name of the teddy, guess the number of sweets in a jar and her very own homemade cakes for sale. This will all be taking place alongside a charity coffee morning at Heanor Methodist Church on Saturday 13th July at 10am until 12 midday.

She has organised raffle prizes including:

  • a spa day for 2 at Durban House,
  • free entry to Twycross zoo, Manor Farm and Woodlands, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Twinlakes or Wherlgate,
  • a meal for 1 at Nandos,
  • a hamper from Morrisons
  • a voucher to spend at Farmfoods.

Oh, and did I mention, she's only 9 years old!

So, if you are unsure what to do this Saturday morning, why not run along to Heanor Methodist church from 10 am until midday and enter this wonderful young ladies raffle, tombola or buy one of her delicious cakes?
