What having a documentary wedding photographer actually means for your day
Unlike traditional posed photography or styled editorial shoots, documentary photography puts the day itself first. I’ll share advice on the best way to approach things — like the confetti shot or cutting the cake — but I won’t manufacture a moment that isn’t really happening.
That doesn’t mean no structure at all. I’ll still get the classic shots you’ll want to look back on — family groups, the two of you together, the important formalities — just without stopping your day to stage them. The rest of the time, I’m simply there, watching, and photographing what unfolds.
FAQs
Will I still get family/group photos? Yes, if you want them, a short, relaxed handful of group photos are still part of the day. It just won’t dominate your timeline, and the rest of the day is spent capturing things as they naturally happen rather than directing them.
Do you travel outside Nottingham? Absolutely, all travel costs are included within the price, and I’m happy to travel around the UK – my furthest is currently Cornwall!
What’s included in your packages, and how much do they cost?
Full day coverage starts at £1,500. I arrive around two hours before the ceremony and stay until the party’s properly underway, typically around 9pm — so everything’s covered, from the quiet moments getting ready through to the ceremony, group shots (if you want them), your couple portraits, speeches, and the party.
That includes all your edited photos and an online gallery to view, share and download them, plus wedding advice and supplier recommendations along the way. If you’d like to add anything extra — an engagement shoot, a second photographer, a short highlight video, prints or a keepsake box — those are all available too.
About me
Hi, I’m Dave — an award-winning wedding photographer, husband, dad and lover of the outdoors, based in Nottingham. My love of photography started back in the New Forest where I grew up, trying to capture the beauty of nature around me. Then some friends asked me to photograph their wedding, then another, and another — I loved it so much I made it my job.
What I love most about wedding days is the atmosphere: the early morning jitters, the tears in the ceremony, the speeches going sideways in the best way, a pumping dancefloor. My job is to be there for all of it, camera in hand, fully present, and make sure you get to keep it.
Thinking of booking a documentary wedding photographer?
I’d love to hear about your day and talk through how I’d capture it. I’ll get back to you ASAP (usually within 24 hours) to check your date and chat through what you’re planning.
