Autumn Colours & Composition

Sunday 26 October 2025, 10am–1pm
Location: Wollaton Hall & Deer Park, Nottingham

Autumn’s the perfect time to grab your camera and get creative. We’ll explore the beautiful grounds of Wollaton Hall — think golden leaves, reflections, and maybe a few curious deer — while learning the fundamentals of photography.

We’ll cover:

  • How to use your camera’s main settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO)

  • Simple composition techniques that make your images stand out

  • How to make the most of autumn light and colour

This relaxed, hands-on session is ideal for beginners with any camera.

After-Dark: Light Trails, Long Exposures & Christmas Lights

Sunday 14 December 2025, 5pm–8pm

Location: Nottingham city centre (Lace Market & Old Market Square)

Once the sun sets, Nottingham lights up — and it’s a brilliant chance to try something totally different. In this evening session, we’ll explore long exposures, light trails, and creative ways to photograph the city’s festive glow.

We’ll cover:

– How to shoot in low light using manual exposure

– Light painting and motion blur techniques

– Tips for creating sharp, colourful night photos

Bring a tripod if you have one (and a sense of adventure). No previous experience needed!

Winter Light & Minimalism

Sunday 18 January 2026, 10am–1pm
Location: Attenborough Nature Reserve, Nottingham

Winter light can be soft, subtle, and surprisingly beautiful. This calm, creative session focuses on seeing and composing with simplicity — perfect for beginners who want to slow down and really notice what’s in front of them.

We’ll cover:

  • How to expose correctly in dull or misty light

  • Simplifying your compositions and embracing negative space

  • Finding interest in minimal scenes, patterns, and textures

Perfect for anyone who loves a peaceful morning with a camera in hand.

Spring Wildlife & Storytelling

Spring Wildlife & Storytelling at Bestwood Country Park

Sunday 12 April 2026, 10am–1pm

Location: Shipley Country Park

As spring bursts into life, we’ll head out to capture nature waking up. This session focuses on wildlife photography basics and building a small visual story from what you see.

We’ll cover:

– Focusing on moving subjects and using different shooting modes

– Patience and anticipation for wildlife photography

– Creating a simple photo story from your shots

Bring a telephoto lens if you’ve got one — but any camera will do!

Summer Landscapes & Golden Hour

Sunday 14 June 2026, 5:30pm–8pm

Location: Creswell Crags (or Dovedale if preferred)

Golden hour is every photographer’s favourite time — warm light, long shadows, and endless creative potential. This relaxed evening workshop is all about light, colour, and composition.

We’ll cover:

– Working with light direction and exposure

– Building stronger landscape compositions

– Using small apertures (and filters if you have them)

A perfect chance to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and learn to make the most of natural light.

Autumn Details & Creative Perspectives 

Sunday 11 October 2026, 10am–1pm

Location: Highfields Campus, Nottingham

We’ll wrap up the year with a session that’s all about creativity and seeing differently. Focusing on details, textures, and patterns, we’ll explore how to make simple scenes look striking.

We’ll cover:

– Macro and close-up techniques (even without a macro lens)

– Playing with perspective, reflections, and depth

– Building confidence to experiment and shoot creatively

Great for anyone who wants to refresh their creativity or try something new with their camera.

Once you’re booked in, I’ll be in touch to plan a session that suits you.

For one-to-one lessons, we’ll head out on a relaxed photo walk somewhere lovely in the Nottinghamshire countryside or a nearby park – the perfect way to learn as we go.

For group sessions, I’ll drop you a message closer to the date with everything you need to know – where to meet, what to bring, and what to expect.

Whether you’re completely new to photography or just want to get more from your camera, I’ll tailor the session to your level.

No experience needed – just bring your camera and a bit of curiosity!

I like to keep things nice and easy.

I offer 90-minute one-to-one sessions (£75), or you can book a block of five sessions for £325 if you want to really dig in and keep the learning going.

I also run a few small group workshops (£75) throughout the year, which usually last around 2–3 hours – a great way to learn with others in a fun, relaxed setting.

For either small group or one-to-one sessions, the price is £75 for a single session or book a block of five sessions for £325. If you buy a block of five these can be used either on one-to-one sessions or group sessions or a combo of both!

Whether you’re after help with camera basics, want to troubleshoot something specific, or fancy trying out some new techniques, there’ll be plenty of time to ask questions, experiment, and improve your skills.
