St Mary’s in the Lace Market Wedding Photography

Looking down from the organ balcony on a wedding ceremony at St Mary's in the Lace Market, Nottingham.

When Zoe and Phil got married at St Mary’s in the Lace Market in Nottingham, the church’s adult choir sang, and the pews were full of other choral singers. Phil is the organist here, so it was a musical crowd. When they really got going, I had proper chills.

It was my first St Mary’s wedding and I’d love to do more. Here’s what I’d want to know if I were getting married there. You can see Zoe and Phil’s full wedding here.

Why I love St Mary's in the Lace Market Weddings so much

It’s a big, wide church. That matters more than it sounds: there’s room for me to move around during the ceremony without standing in the aisle or blocking anyone’s view of you.

The stained glass is beautiful, and it’s the oldest parish church in Nottingham, so it looks every bit the part. Most of the building went up between the late 1300s and the early 1500s.

The vicar was completely laid back about me being where I needed to be. And there’s a balcony by the organ that gives a view straight down the church. I was allowed up there for part of Zoe and Phil’s ceremony, and it’s a view of your wedding you won’t get anywhere else in the building.

Essential information:

Where is St Mary's in the Lace Market?

High Pavement in the Lace Market, Nottingham NG1 1HN, in the city centre. The Lace Market tram stop is close by.

Who can get married at St Mary's in the Lace Market?

The church asks that one of you has lived in the parish, has a family connection to the church, or has attended regularly for at least six months before booking. Their weddings page has the full criteria.

Can the St Mary's choir sing at our wedding?

The church says its choir is usually available, whether to lift the hymns or to sing a specific piece, and the organist will talk through what you’d like beforehand. At Zoe and Phil’s wedding the adult choir sang, and with so many other choral singers in the pews the sound filled the whole building.

The church points drivers to nearby car parks, including County House car park and the Lace Market multi-storey.

How much does a wedding at St Mary's in the Lace Market cost?

The church publishes its wedding fee on its website. Choir costs are separate and depend on how many singers you want, so ask them for current figures.

Confetti

Zoe and Phil had petals on the path outside the main door, which gives you a proper tunnel of guests either side. Check with the church what they allow before you buy any.

Top tips from a St Mary's in the Lace Market photographer (aka me!)

– Book the choir. In a building this size, a full choir fills the place. It was one of the moments of Zoe and Phil’s day.
– Ask about the organ balcony early. If you’d like photos of your ceremony from above, check with the church when you book. I’d always ask rather than assume.
– Take five minutes in the empty church. Once your guests have gone outside, the nave is yours for a few photos without a crowd.
– Confetti on the way out. The path outside the main door gives a proper tunnel of guests either side.

Looking for a St Mary's in the Lace Market Wedding photographer?

If you’re getting married at St Mary’s, I’d love to hear about it. As a documentary wedding photographer I work without a shot list. I get in amongst the day from the moment I arrive and photograph it as it happens, so you can spend it with your people rather than posing for me.

Have a look at what’s included and what it costs, or drop me a line and tell me about your day.

Still shortlisting?

Zoe and Phil had their reception at Holme Pierrepont Hall, and I’ve written a guide to the Council House in Nottingham too. There’s a round-up of wedding venues in and around Nottingham if you want the wider list.
